South Carolina Teacher Teacher Arrested for 2-Year Sexual Abuse of Teen Student
Grooming via School Sign-Outs and After-School Supervision Led to Multiple Criminal Charges For 33-Year-Old Nicole Callaham
ANDERSON COUNTY, SC. — Former South Carolina teacher Nicole Ballew Callaham, 33, has been charged with a "prolonged pattern of abuse" involving a teenage boy student, according to the Anderson County Sheriff's Office. She turned herself in to the Anderson County Detention Center on Thursday, facing three counts of criminal sexual conduct with a minor and one count of contributing to the delinquency of a minor. The investigation, which began in May, revealed that the misconduct started in 2021 during her time as a teacher at Anderson School District Five and lasted at least two years.
Authorities described how Callaham engaged in "grooming behavior" with the boy during his early teen years. "The relationship intensified as she reportedly signed the student out of school, transported him to practices and served as a supervisor for after-school activities," the sheriff's office stated. "These repeated interactions led to a prolonged pattern of abuse, which was corroborated by search warrants and ongoing cooperation with the victim’s family." The victim came forward after turning 18, "following time spent processing the experience and trauma associated with the abuse," officials noted.
In addition to the Anderson County charges, the Greenville City Police Department filed similar accusations, as some alleged conduct occurred when the boy attended school in their jurisdiction. Callaham has resigned from Anderson School District Five.
